Gur Sandesh
The demand of Nolen-gur (molasses) made Sandesh, a semi-dried sweetmeat of Lohagara, has been increased with the inception of the winter season. The tongue-licking, delicious Sandesh is now also being supplied to various places of the country.
It is learnt, the Nolen-gur made Sandesh of Saha Sweets at Laxmipasha has a tremendous demand among people of all ages. Especially, during the marriage ceremony, New Years celebration, Sunnate Khatna and in any function, the Nalen-gur-Sandesh is an essential item of delicacy.
According to sources, sweetmeat traders collect date-juice from the 'Gachhi' (man who collect date juice by cutting date-branches on date-trees). The juice is then turned to molasses and the Sandesh is made. Per kilogramme of Sandesh is sold at Taka 380 to 450. A sweetmeat shop can sell one to four mauds of Sandesh daily.
Chanchal Sheikh, a resident of Rajupur informed he served the Nalen-gur made Sandesh to any guest arrived here from neighbouring districts. The sweetmeat is also being sold online, he added.
Abhijit Saha Ovi, Director of Saha Sweets informed, in 1971 his grandfather Sachindranath Saha used to sell the Nalen-gur made Sandesh. After his death, his grandma Susanto Saha continued the business. He claimed the business is their paternal tradition.
They feel glad and satisfied by supplying quality Nolen Gur made Sandesh to the customers.
