Clindamycin

Indications

Clindamycin lotion is prescribed for acne vulgaris treatment. Topical Clindamycin lotion can also be used for:

• Rosacea, periorificial dermatitis, folliculitis, stasis, chronic lymphaedema, and familial pemphigus are all skin illnesses caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum.
• Ulcers on the skin.

Pharmacology

Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that is used to treat infections caused by microorganisms that are susceptible to it. Clindamycin is a lincomycin-derived semisynthetic antibiotic. It contains antibacterial and anti-acne properties. It binds to the 50s subunit of the bacterial ribosome and prevents protein synthesis from starting. It's effective against both gram-positive and anaerobic bacteria.

Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis (penicillinase and non-penicillinase generating strains), Streptococci, and Pneumococci are examples of aerobic gram-positive cocci. Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

Interaction

There is insufficient evidence to suggest that it is safe to use during pregnancy. There were no negative effects on the fetus in animal tests. Clindamycin is not known whether it is eliminated in breast milk after topical application. Clindamycin lotion, on the other hand, should be used with caution during nursing.

Side Effects

Clindamycin may cause the adverse effects listed below. Vaginitis, vulvo-vaginal inflammation, genital tract Dizziness, headaches, and vertigo are symptoms of the central nervous system. Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort are all symptoms of gastrointestinal problems. Dermatological symptoms include rash and exanthema. Urticaria is a symptom of hypersensitivity.

Precautions & Warnings

Clindamycin lotion should not be used in the mouth, on the eyes, or in the vaginal area. Sunlight and sunlamps should be avoided. Use sunscreen on a regular basis.
